Understanding How Social Sharing and Points Work in Campaigns

When a registrant clicks "share" to earn points, they open the share option and close the browser page to receive the points, without verification of an actual share or follow on social media. Is this how the system is intended to work?

Answer: Yes, this is the expected behaviour. Here’s how it works:

  • Points for Sharing/Follows: Points are awarded when a contact clicks "share" or "follow," simply for starting the process. This helps create a sense of progress and motivates participants to continue engaging with the campaign. By seeing their points increase as they move through the steps, they feel motivated to continue.

  • Why There’s No Validation: The key focus of our system is referrals, not necessarily validating social media shares or follows. We don’t track whether the social share or follow was completed, because the most valuable outcome we’re incentivizing is referrals—encouraging participants to invite others to join.

  • Points Weighting: While participants earn a small number of points for clicking "share" and "follow" (typically 5 points), the real incentive comes from referrals. Each referral is worth more points (usually 10 points or more), and there’s no cap on how many points participants can earn through referrals. This structure encourages users to focus on generating referrals rather than just going through the steps.

Takeaway points:

    • Sharing/following: Points are awarded for clicking "Share" and "Follow" to create a sense of progress.
    • Referrals: These are the core focus, and referrals are weighted higher with no cap on the points that can be earned.

The system is designed this way to balance engagement and incentives while focusing on what truly drives value—referrals.
